Operating Rules

Rules summary

1. Club structure

The SJA Flying Club is a nonprofit, members-only organization. It operates N3910N under an exclusive lease from the aircraft owner, for the personal use of its members only. The club does not rent aircraft to non-members, does not offer flights for hire, and does not provide pilots with the aircraft.

2. No commercial use

Members may not use club aircraft to carry persons or property for compensation or hire, or for any Luxury Aviators limo or charter-coordination client. Passengers may share flight costs only as permitted by 14 CFR 61.113, and members may never advertise or hold out flights.

3. Pilot in command

Only members who have completed the club checkout and are named on the club insurance policy may act as pilot in command. Instruction in the aircraft is limited to members and to instructors approved by the club.

4. Currency and proficiency

Members must hold a valid certificate, a current flight review, the required medical certificate or BasicMed eligibility, passenger currency where applicable, and the club's annual proficiency check. Insurance minimums apply as published once the policy is issued.

5. Pre-flight and post-flight

Use the aircraft checklist. Log tach/Hobbs times, fuel added and squawks after every flight. An airworthiness-related squawk grounds the aircraft until it is cleared by maintenance.

6. Fuel management

Know the fuel quantity before every flight. Follow the POH for tank selection and the club fuel policy for refueling and reimbursement. Plan legal reserves plus a personal margin.

7. Gear and complex operations

Use the club's before-landing (GUMPS) flow and verify gear down on every approach. Learn the gear system and emergency extension procedure for N3910N during checkout.

8. Weather and personal minimums

Members set and respect personal minimums, which can never be below FAA requirements. No one may be pressured to fly to meet a schedule.

9. Damage and incidents

Report any damage, incident or accident to the administrator right away, and to the NTSB or FAA as required. The flying member pays the insurance deductible for damage during their reservation, per the membership agreement.

10. Geographic limits

Flights are limited to the areas covered by the club insurance policy. Flights outside the contiguous United States need administrator approval and confirmed coverage.

11. Billing and payments

Dues are billed monthly in advance. Flight time is billed after each reservation on the agreed basis. Accounts more than 30 days past due may lose scheduling privileges.

12. Conduct

Treat the aircraft as your own and your fellow members with respect. Violations may lead to suspension or termination under the membership agreement.

Governing documents

The club's binding terms will be in the following documents, which are being prepared for legal and insurance review:

  • Flying Club Membership Agreement
  • Aircraft Operating Rules
  • Membership Deposit & Refund Policy
  • Aircraft Scheduling Policy
  • Fuel Reimbursement Policy
  • Aircraft Checkout Requirements
  • Insurance & Liability Provisions
  • Membership Cancellation Policy

Prospective members receive complete copies before signing anything.

Membership cancellation

Members may resign with 30 days' written notice. The deposit is refunded under the membership agreement after any balance is settled. If the club opens memberships later, departing members may refer qualified replacements.
